Vacation Time is Near!

Can you beleive it?  School is almost over!  What are your plans for the summer?  Are you going to take a vacation somewhere, see some different areas of the country?  Well, I just wanted to say, there are so many place to discover right here in Kansas City, Missouri.

Why not put a Kansas City tourist and attractions on your map?  It's a great city!  You just might be surprised of what a jewel of a city it really is!

See Life

Wanted to share I went to Sea Life.  Its a cool exhibit in Kansas City Crown Center area.  So many fish and sting rays I couldn't count.  There were star fish and jelly fish too!  They employed over a hundred people for this new aquarium!  If you are a water lover, then this may be the place for you! 

I hope it will bring more money into Kansas City, MO. tourism.  If you live in Kansas City there are reduced tickets online.  Oustide visitors should put this on their radar.  Its new, and a true jewel to Kansas City!

KC elevator conversation

Today I ran into several people that were KC Firefighters.  It was a nice day outside, so I stood around and asked question as one Kansas Citian to another.  I asked them questions like, where there station was, and what were the amenities of their Fire Stations.  Did they think is was fair for some employees to get raises and others not?  One of them told me they they were just looking out for Fire. Did that mean forget about everyone else employed by the City?   I know the City has to cut the budget, but how did they as Fire employees see it as being "fair"?

We all came in City Hall and rode up on the same elevator.  I have to tell you, I wasn't surprised to learn they have some very nice digs.  I do know everybody needs their jobs and pay raises are nice when your company can afford it. However the City is not in that position.  I agree with having services for the community, however, I don't agree with some of the plush things that they have in their station home away from home.  It would be nice to save some tax money they seem to take for granted, and make them pay for their own cable TV and stainless steel kitchen appliances.    Maybe they could save money by using the same furniture for a couple of years. Maybe hold back on the yearly LazyBoy recliner?   It was nice to talk to the KC Firemen that I saw downtown.  If they only knew I knew more than they know I do - they might not have been so friendly to me.

KC Learner 101

Today I was listening to Mayors State of the City address and he said there are millions of Americans that cant read past the 3rd grade.  That really messed me up.  Everyone needs to be able to read!  It's a real thing for some kids, even adults.  When my kids were younger I was was a Youth Friend at the elemetrary school they attended.  Every other week on my lunch break I would go over and help kids with basic math concepts.  That was a long time ago. 

Well, today I contacted the Niles Home for Children.  They have a different program than that of Youth Friends - where volunteers can help with the students. Same concept.  I am going over there to read to a group of kids on my lunch break once a week.   I hope I can make a difference in at least one kids life.
